Journey from Village to Cinema

Chitrogaon is more than just a name it embodies my vision of storytelling through visuals. Chitro, meaning “image,” represents the art of photography, while Gaon, meaning “village,” connects to my roots and the untold stories of rural life. Through my lens, I document the deep bond between people, nature, and wildlife, preserving moments that often go unnoticed.

Living God, Losing Abode

In Jhargram district of southern West Bengal, the rising human deaths as a result of human-elephant conflict are a matter of concern. Elephants frequently raid crops and damage property. Aggressive retaliation in the form of “HULA”, is endangering the mental and physical well-being of elephants. HEAL, a wildlife conservation organization, is tackling this crisis by addressing the 'hula' phenomenon through legal channels and through a comprehensive social survey to understand the underlying issues behind the rising conflict, ultimately aiming for a long-term solution to promote coexistence.

Mohul_Ek Soch Parivartan Ki Or

In the heart of Purulia, West Bengal, the Mahua tree plays a significant role in the lives of local communities. Its flowers are not only used in religious ceremonies and festivals but also serve as a vital source of income for villagers. Traditionally, villagers gather Mahua flowers from the beginning of Chaitra to the end of Baishakh, but the price of Mahua has drastically fallen from ₹70-80 per kilogram to just ₹20-22 due to climate change, adulteration in Mahua liquor, and poor harvesting techniques. Researcher Abhijit Dey's study identifies these concerns. He is trying to introduce new methods for collecting food-grade Mahua and creating value added edible products. This documentary follows Abhijit’s efforts to train the community, aiming to restore the Mahua tree’s economic and cultural importance.

Hyena – Reviving from the edge

In the biodiverse hills of Purulia, West Bengal, the declining presence of hyenas has raised serious concern. Mountaineer and researcher Joydeep Chakraborty has been working closely with local communities to protect the species. This film captures his journey — of challenges, collaboration, and shifting perceptions around a misunderstood animal.

The Last Keepers – Saving India’s Camels

As camel numbers in India dwindle at an alarming rate, the Raikas — a resilient community of traditional herders — are holding the line, protecting a centuries-old bond and exploring new ways to keep both camels and culture alive.

Abode of Cheetahs

India once lost its cheetahs to history — but today, that chapter is being rewritten. Under one of the most ambitious conservation projects in Independent India, these magnificent cats have returned to our grasslands after decades. From their first steps on Indian soil in Kuno National Park, to the joy of seeing the first cubs born here, to their fearless exploration of the wild — the journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. And now, with cheetahs moving to Gandhisagar Sanctuary and more destinations ahead, the project stands as a testament to patience, perseverance, and partnership.
